Online Lessons
Thanks for your interest in online lessons.
While I believe very strongly in the value of in-person voice training, I also have found that online lessons provide a ton of value and offer some cool advantages.
Why I love Online Lessons:
-
Visual Learning
The ability to see your physical use in real time can help reinforce correct postural habits that support good singing.
-
Detailed Work with Small Muscles
Online training makes it easier to see the subtleties of tongue/jaw/soft palate placement that can be difficult to perceive in an in-person session.
-
Screen Sharing
I have a ton of visual resources that I have created to help you understand what's happening with your voice. An online session allows me to easily share this information with you.
-
Recording
Online learning makes recording the sessions so easy. I find this to be an invaluable reference and helps you get more out of your lessons.
What is an Online Lesson Like?
Here’s a video example of the kind of thing I do in an online session:

Frequently Asked Questions
I teach lessons on Zoom, so you need the Zoom app/desktop client downloaded to your device.
I’ll send you the link to the meeting beforehand.
In the Zoom app/desktop client, you need to have “Original Sound for Musicians” enabled.
If you are using Zoom on your computer, I will give you permission to record the session, and the video will download either to your computer or to the cloud, depending on your Zoom setup.
If you are doing the lesson on your phone or tablet, you will not be able to record through the Zoom app. In that case, I can record the session for you and send it to you after the lesson concludes.
An external mic (such as a Blue Yeti) will generally improve the audio clarity for me to hear you. However, mics on devices are getting so good that I can usually hear well enough with just your native mic built into your device.
The refresh rate on Zoom is usually not sufficient to allow me to accompany for you in real time. If we are using Zoom audio, the way it will go for vocalizing is this:
- I will sing the exercise and play it on my keyboard.
- You will sing the exercise a cappella.
- I will give you the next key, etc.
If we are working on repertoire, you can either sing to a track or a cappella.
If you need a track to sing with, you can send me a PDF of the sheet music, and I can make an piano track for you during the lesson. I’ll then send you the track and you can sing with it during the lesson and for practice in the future.
You can pay using Venmo (@andrewmbyrne), Paypal (st****@**********ne.com), Zelle (st****@**********ne.com) or I can send you a credit card invoice.
